A Case of the Week

Case 38

A sixty one-year-old male came to our hospital suffering from the right facial throbbing pain. The pain initiated from the area underneath the right ear approximately two weeks ago. Because the pain was not continuous, it was tolerable. However, the pain worsened from the night before his coming. The continuous pain of the right face, especially the area surrounding the right eye was found. Herpes zoster was not found. He was given minor tranquilizer, Tegretol (carbamazepine). The following day, visual analogue scale decreased from 8 to 2. He received MRI for investigation of the cause of the facial pain.
